When I read, the one thing I like is to listen to music. I hate being in complete silence so I like to listen to my "Readers" playlist on my IPod. The music is slow and calming, so I don't get to distracted.
I mostly like to read fantasy books. A lot of my favorite books are fantasy: Twilight, Wicked, Harry Potter, etc. I like going into other worlds or situations that could never happen. Imagining that there real makes it all the more fun to read.
One book that "made me want to turn the page" was Twilight. I did start reading the series because people kept talking about them. When I started reading it, I was fascinated with the characters. I did wish I was Bella in the story. Towards the end of the book, the action got so much better that I felt the suspense. I really liked that book and I might read it again someday.
Some of my favorite books growing up was "Stella Luna" and "Verdi" both by Janell Cannon. I liked these books because I felt like they related to me. In "Stella Luna" a bat is trying to find out where she belongs. It takes some time but she finds her kind. I felt that I didn't belong until I met some of my close friends, I felt a lot like her. In "Verdi" a yellow snake starts to green and it scares him. He doesn't want to be thought of as strange or different. He tries everything to stop the green from coming, but soon he is completely green. He realizes that he has to accept himself as he is. I went through times where I felt different and was scared to show it off. Now I like who I am and I don't mind being different. I felt a lot like him.
"Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" is my favorite book. I liked it because they were characters I knew from the Wizard of Oz taken into a new perspective. I loved Elphaba (Witch of the West.) She reminded me a lot of myself. She felt out of place because she looked and acted different then everyone else. The romance and the suspense together made a great book. A Must Read!
I am putting Wicked on my summer reading list. I have heard wonderful things about the Broadway show and would love to see that as well. Have you?
